Text 33. (Spanish)

cāri sampradāye haila cabbiśa gāyana

dui dui mārdańgika haila aṣṭa jana

Translation: There were altogether four parties of kīrtana performers, (spanish) comprising twenty-four chanters. (spanish) In each party there were also two mṛdańga players, (spanish) making an additional eight persons. (Spanish)

tabe mahāprabhu mane vicāra kariyā

cāri sampradāya dila gāyana bāńṭiyā

nityānanda, advaita, haridāsa, vakreśvare

cāri jane ājṣā dila nṛtya karibāre

Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu ordered Nityānanda Prabhu, Advaita Ācārya, Haridāsa Ṭhākura and Vakreśvara Paṇḍita to dance in each of the four respective parties. (Spanish)

prathama sampradāye kaila svarūpa — pradhāna

āra paṣca-jana dila tāńra pāligāna

Svarūpa Dāmodara was chosen as the leader of the first party (Spanish) and was given five assistants to respond to his chanting. (Spanish)

dāmodara, nārāyaṇa, datta govinda

rāghava paṇḍita, āra śrī-govindānanda

The five who responded to the singing of Svarūpa Dāmodara were (Spanish) Dāmodara Paṇḍita, Nārāyaṇa, Govinda Datta, Rāghava Paṇḍita y Śrī Govindānanda.

advaitere nṛtya karibāre ājṣā dila śrīvāsa —

pradhāna āra sampradāya kaila

Advaita Ācārya Prabhu was ordered to dance in the first group. (Spanish) The Lord then formed another group with Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura as the chief man. (Spanish)

In the first group, Dāmodara Svarūpa was appointed chief singer, (Spanish) and the responding singers were (Spanish) Dāmodara Paṇḍita, Nārāyaṇa, Govinda Datta, Rāghava Paṇḍita y Govindānanda. Śrī Advaita Ācārya was appointed as a dancer. (Spanish) The next group was formed, and the chief singer was Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura. (Spanish)

gańgādāsa, haridāsa, śrīmān, śubhānanda

śrī-rāma paṇḍita, tāhāń nāce nityānanda

The five singers who responded to the singing of Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura were (Spanish) Gańgādāsa, Haridāsa, Śrīmān, Śubhānanda y Śrī Rāma Paṇḍita. Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu was appointed as a dancer. (Spanish)

vāsudeva, gopīnātha, murāri yāhāń gāya

mukunda — pradhāna kaila āra sampradāya

Another group was formed (Spanish) consisting of (Spanish) Vāsudeva, Gopīnātha y Murāri. All these were responsive singers, (Spanish) and Mukunda was the chief singer. (Spanish)

Nityananda was in Srivas’group.

śrīkānta, vallabha-sena āra dui jana

haridāsa-ṭhākura tāhāń karena nartana

Another two persons, Śrīkānta and Vallabha Sena, joined as responsive singers. (Spanish) In this group, Haridāsa Ṭhākura [the senior] was the dancer. (Spanish)

He was the dancer.

Translator:

Oh, I thought you said singer.

Jayapataka Swami: Senior. There’s two: Choṭa Haridāsa, Baḍa Haridāsa, big and small (Spanish) Purport: In the third group, Mukunda was appointed the chief singer. This party was composed of (Spanish) Vāsudeva, Gopīnātha, Murāri, Śrīkānta y Vallabha Sena. (Spanish) The senior Haridāsa Ṭhākura was the dancer. (Spanish)

govinda-ghoṣa — pradhāna kaila āra sampradāya

haridāsa, viṣṇudāsa, rāghava, yāhāń gāya

The Lord formed another group, appointing Govinda Ghoṣa as leader. (Spanish) Leader means lead singer. (Spanish) In this group the younger Haridāsa, Viṣṇudāsa and Rāghava were the responding singers. (Spanish)

mādhava, vāsudeva-ghoṣa, — dui sahodara

nṛtya karena tāhāń paṇḍita-vakreśvara

Two brothers named Mādhava Ghoṣa and Vāsudeva Ghoṣa also joined this group as responsive singers. (Spanish) Vakreśvara Paṇḍita was the dancer. (Spanish)

kulīna-grāmera eka kīrtanīyā-samāja

tāhāń nṛtya karena rāmānanda, satyarāja

There was a sańkīrtana party from the village known as Kulīna-grāma, (Spanish) and Rāmānanda and Satyarāja were appointed the dancers in this group. (Spanish)

śāntipurera ācāryera eka sampradāya

acyutānanda nāce tathā, āra saba gāya

There was another party that came from Śāntipura and was formed by Advaita Ācārya. (Spanish) Acyutānanda was the dancer, and the rest of the men were singers. (Spanish)

khaṇḍera sampradāya kare anyatra kīrtana

narahari nāce tāhāń śrī-raghunandana

Another party was formed by the people of Khaṇḍa. (Spanish) These people were singing in a different place. (Spanish) In that group, Narahari Prabhu and Raghunandana were dancing. (Spanish)

jagannāthera āge cāri sampradāya gāya

dui pāśe dui, pāche eka sampradāya

Four parties chanted and danced in front of Lord Jagannātha, (Spanish) and on both sides were two other parties. (Spanish) Another was at the rear. (Spanish)

sāta sampradāye bāje caudda mādala

yāra dhvani śuni' vaiṣṇava haila pāgala

There were altogether seven parties of sańkīrtana, (Spanish) and in each party two men were beating drums. (Spanish) Thus fourteen drums were being played at once. (Spanish) The sound was tumultuous, and the devotees became mad. (Spanish)

vaiṣṇavera megha-ghaṭāya ha-ila bādala

kīrtanānande saba varṣe netra-jala

All the Vaiṣṇavas came together like an assembly of clouds. (Spanish) As the devotees chanted the holy names in great ecstasy, tears fell in great ecstasy like rainfall from their eyes. (Spanish)

tri-bhuvana bhari' uṭhe kīrtanera dhvani

anya vādyādira dhvani kichui nā śuni

When the sańkīrtana resounded, it filled the three worlds. (Spanish) Indeed, no one could hear mundane sounds or musical instruments other than the sańkīrtana. (Spanish)

You see, so here we see that their complete concentration was there in the holy name (Spanish) everyone was completely concentrated upon holy names (Spanish) no other sound could be heard. (Spanish) There was a perfect uh, wall of transcendental vibration built up. (Spanish)

We see that how all the different disciples of Caitanya Mahaprabhu were assisting Him in His sankirtan movement. (Spanish) Each of the group will be singing Hare Krishna in kirtan. different tunes… different… separately (Spanish) You see, but because they were each formed as a group that they would maintain their own tempo and their own song (Spanish) and together having all these seven groups chanting differently but simultaneously, it created a unique harmony (Spanish) like a grand symphony (Spanish) of sankirtana. (Spanish)

The chanting… each group we can basically see at one singer and five responders and one dancer – seven people (Spanish); in some places two dancers (Spanish) and two mrdangas for each group (Spanish) so that was about nine to ten persons per group. (Spanish)

About… in 1977 our Mayapur temple was attacked by some anti-socials from another religious group

Translator: from some what… anti-socials?

Jayapataka Swami: from another religious sect. (Spanish) and who are sponsored by some communist, revolutionary people (Spanish) and so as a result some of our members were arrested (Spanish) unfairly, (Spanish) but… of course we got them all freed very shortly. (Spanish) But, while they were in the jail we organized one big protest march (Spanish) which was organized as a big sankirtan procession (Spanish) and over 25,000 people participated in that (Spanish) and there were 168 sankirtan groups like this. (Spanish)

Each group was singing different kirtan tune, a different melody at the same time one after another after another (Spanish) You see, and one devotee was going to each group like a bee taking the honey (Spanish) and he came back and said that “It is such a nectar. Every group is a different mood, a different ecstasy in kirtana (Spanish) One group is in jubilation (Spanish) One group is in separation (Spanish) One is in melancholy (Spanish) One is in increasing mood (Spanish) different tunes and different moods its just like floating in the wave in the ocean of a nectar. (Spanish)

You see, so here from spiritual sky liberated souls came down to assist Caitanya Mahaprabhu in a sankirtan movement. (Spanish) We can see that within Lord Caitanya’s movement there is unity through diversity (Spanish) and within the diversity, by being all connected to Caitanya Mahaprabhu there was the complete harmony.

Translator: Can you repeat that?

Jayapataka Swami: and through the independent groups being completely coordinated by Caitanya Mahaprabhu there is a complete harmony (Spanish) in this way although they were hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people coming for ratha-yatra (Spanish) we can see that Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu captured the minds of everyone (Spanish) including Lord Jagannatha (Spanish)

Devotees: Jaya Jagannatha! Hari Bol!

Jayapataka Swami: So this the secret of attracting the mind of the whole world (Spanish) you see, by performing the sankirtan, chanting following in the footsteps of Caitanya Mahaprabhu (Spanish) this is a great cultural event (Spanish) and people should understand that this is a great cultural heritage (Spanish) of course it has spiritual and religious roots. (Spanish) But it is also a great cultural event (Spanish) does not… that culture can has to avoid spiritual direction (Spanish) actually the original purpose of singing, dancing, drama and all type of art and culture were to glorify the Supreme Lord. (Spanish)

In all the streets, you see the statues of national heroes (Spanish) here in Guadalahara, (Spanish) and in other places of the world (Spanish) You see, so many songs are sung about… folk songs about national heroes as well as rock songs about object of the senses (Spanish) You see, so why not chanting and dancing and art and everything for the supreme object of… the supreme goal of life? (Spanish) with the supreme personality de dios. (Spanish)

Jaya Jagannatha!

Devotees: Jaya!

Jayapataka Swami: Jaya Jagannatha!

Devotees: Jaya Jagannatha!

Jayapataka Swami: Gaura Hari

Devotees: Jaya! Hari Bol!

Jayapataka Swami: Gaura Hari!

Devotees: Gaura Hari! Jaya!

Jayapataka Swami: You see, so, Caitanya Mahaprabhu in the beginning of His movement he was training up all these people in the singing and dancing, and in a sankirtan techniques in the house of Srivasa. (Spanish) there, Mukunda, Vakesvara Pandita, and Narahari, all these great devotees were present. (Spanish) You see, Narahari used to fan Lord Caitanya. (Spanish)

kiba narahari-adi kori’ camara dhulaya

we sing that song every day. He’s fanning with the camara (Spanish)

sanjaya-mukunda-basu-ghosh-adi gaya. Mukunda, he’s one of the lead singers here, (Spanish) Vasudeva Ghosa is also one of the singers mentioned here. (Spanish) You see, so many of the devotees, they’d go down from Bengal to meet Caitanya Mahaprabhu in Jagannatha Puri (Spanish) other devotees Lord Caitanya met in Jagannatha Puri, itself. (Spanish) But although there were Bengal devotees, Orissan devotees, devotees in different nations, in those days they were different nations, still there was complete harmony (Spanish) They have different language, (Spanish) different administration. (Spanish) But, under Caitanya Mahaprabhu everyone was united (Spanish) and this is on the supreme spiritual platform. (Spanish)

Actually Lord Nityanand and Advaita themselves are Personality of Godhead (Spanish) and… but Caitanya Mahaprabhu, He always maintained mood as a devotee (Spanish) You see, even in Navadwipa, He was always as a devotee. (Spanish) You see, but one day He became very… He became in a different mood (Spanish) and He came to Srivasa’s house, and He sat right on the vya… on the simhasana of the Deity (Spanish) and He call Srivasa’s younger brother - “Come here Ramai! come here Ramai” , (Spanish) immediately you go and you bring this message to Advaitācarya.” (Spanish) you see, “You tell him that Lord for whom He was fasting and shouting loudly names of God (Spanish) that Lord for whom He was worshiping the Salagram Sila with Tulasi side of Ganges river (Spanish) that Lord is here (Spanish) to distribute His pure devotional service (Spanish) Tell Him to come immediately with his wife, with articles for puja. (Spanish) Now go immediately.” (Spanish)

So Ramai paid his obeisances (Spanish) with great enthusiasm he ran out the door (Spanish) and ran, and ran and right to Advaita Acharya’s house (Spanish) You see, just before he reached Advaita’s house, he realized he never asked where Advaita lives (Spanish) He did not know (Spanish) but there he saw he was right in front of Advaita’s house. There, he could see Advaita. (Spanish)

Jaya Gaura Hari Bol!

Devotees: Jaya!

Jayapataka Swami: Because of his great devotional enthusiasm the Lord directed him to right place. (Spanish) Just like Krishna promises in Bhagavad-gita (Spanish)

teṣāḿ satata-yuktānāḿ bhajatāḿ prīti-pūrvakam dadāmi buddhi-yogaḿ taḿ yena mām upayānti te

that “I give intelligence to My devotee (Spanish) how to perform My devotional service.” (Spanish) You see, “for one who is constantly and fully engaged in My devotional service.” (Spanish) So he was able to reach Lord Advaita through that devotional attitude. (Spanish) Then he went to speak to Advaita Gosai and he paid his obeisance to Him. (Spanish) Advaita chastised him. (Spanish) “How can the Supreme Lord be born in Nadia district? (Spanish) What scripture says that God comes in kali-yuga? (Spanish) You expect me to hear to all these things?” (Spanish) He hadn’t said a word. (Spanish) Ramai Pandit hadn’t said anything? (Laughter) (Spanish) So, he knew well that Advaita gosai is not an ordinary person. (Spanish) and He’s got some special powers. (Spanish) He does things that are inconceivable to the person of ordinary type. (Spanish)

He waited and then he saw that Adavita Gosvami was running here and there and doing so many things. (Spanish) He suddenly stopped (Spanish) “What you want? (Spanish) What, what… Why are you here?” (Spanish)

He says, “My Lord, I brought a message for You. (Spanish) Rejoice! (Spanish) That Lord for whom You are loudly shouting to the spiritual sky (Spanish) that Lord for whom you are fasting for days (Spanish) that Lord for whom you are worshiping on side of the Ganges the sacred Salagrama, with tulasi (Spanish) that Lord is here, here in Nadia (Spanish) to distribute His pure devotional service (Spanish) come, come with articles of puja (Spanish) bring your wife!” (Spanish)

Advaita gosai heard that (Spanish) and He started to jump and dance sing. (Spanish) “Haribol! Haribol! The Lord has come! The Lord has come!” (Spanish)

Devotees: (Applauding) Hari bol!

Jayapataka Swami: You see, so immediately He prepared to go (Spanish) His wife was preparing the puja articles (Spanish) She is very expert (Spanish) she had the tray, everything already arranged (Spanish) suddenly Advaita Gosai stopped. (Spanish) “How do I know this is the Lord of my heart? (Spanish) How do I know he is the Supersoul in everyone’s heart, (Spanish) I won’t go. (Spanish) Tell Him that I’m not going. (Spanish) I’m going to hide in a nearby house. (Spanish) If He knows I’m hiding, and calls Me, (Spanish) if He shows Me His transcendental form (Spanish) with its unlimited glory (Spanish) and He puts His lotus feet on My head (Spanish) then I know he is the Lord of My heart and the Lord of the universe (Spanish) You see, “this is My… you tell Him I am not going.” (Spanish)

He took his wife, “Let’s go.” and they ran off to the… to a nearby house from Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. (Spanish) Ramai pandita he went back to Caitanya Mahaprabhu (Spanish) You see, as soon as Ramai pandit came and offered his obeisances to Lord Caitanya from distance (Spanish) as he was getting up (Spanish) Lord Caitanya started to also chastise. (Spanish) So this Advaita Gosai, He wants to test My divinity. (Spanish) So tell Him to come out from hiding that house! (Spanish) Come here! Come here! (Spanish) Let Him see for Himself.” (Spanish)

So Advaita Gosai can hear Caitanya’s loud shouting from the distance (Spanish) So, He came out slowly with his wife following. (Spanish)

“Come here Advaita! come here Advaita!” (Spanish) he called him Nara (Spanish) which means cleanly shaven of the head. (Spanish) So He came out and Lord Caitanya shouted to Him (Spanish) “So You’re trying to test Me!” (Spanish) You see, “So see My transcendental form!” (Spanish) you see and Caitanya Mahaprabhu he start to manifest the brahmajyoti all over the universe (Spanish) Lord Nityananda was behind Him holding an umbrella (Spanish) Narahari, other fortunate devotees were standing and offering different articles for puja (Spanish) Advaita could see nothing but Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His devotees (Spanish) by the effulgence coming from Lord Caitanya, the rest of the whole world was completely invisible (Spanish)

He could see that only Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His devotees were eternal; everything else was temporary. (Spanish) Then the Lord took a form as Sri Krishna, three-fold bending form, playing on the flute with peacock feather in hair and smiling face and lotus eyes. (Spanish) And lotus eyes. (Spanish) You see, suddenly demigods started to appear from the heavenly planets. (Spanish) Gandharvas playing dumduma drums (Spanish), Sukadeva and the four kumaras are offering prayers (Spanish) Lord Siva was offering prayers with his five heads (Spanish) Lord Brahma with his four heads (Spanish) and Kartikeya with his six heads (Spanish) and this way so many demigods were offering their stutis in praise of Lord’s appearance (Spanish)

Mother ganges pulled by big makara whales, came up to worship… and was praising Caitanya Mahaprabhu from a special transcendental boat.

Translator: What was that? Mother Ganges came up with makara whales

Jayapataka Swami: Like a chariot boat was being pulled by makara whales. (Spanish)

TranslatorWha’d you say? She appeared, and this makara whale… what else? She…

Jayapataka Swami: She was in a chariot… boat. It was like a chariot, pulled by the ti... by the makara whales and she was offering prayers to Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. (Spanish) You see, all the type auspicious manifestations became visible. (Spanish) Caitanya Mahaprabhu said “Your loud shouting woke Me up when I was lying on the sesanaga on the ocean of the milk. (Spanish) It has caused Me to come down from the Goloka Vrndavana.” (Spanish)

So then Advaita Gosai started to jump up and down and dance before Lord Caitanya (Spanish) “Haribol! Haribol! Haribol! The Lord has come! The Lord has come! (Spanish)

Devotees: Haribol! Haribol!

Jayapataka Swami: I have made the Lord give up Goloka Vrndavana, for He’s come down on my call! Haribol! Haribol! (Spanish) He’s come on my call! He’s come down from spiritual sky from my calling! Haribol! Haribol! Haribol!” (Spanish)

Devotees: Haribol! Haribol! Haribol!

Jayapataka Swami: Haribol!

Devotees: Haribol!

Jayapataka Swami: Then Lord Caitanya told Advaita Gosai, “Hey Nara, Nara, You must take a boon now! Take a boon (Spanish) Take a boon, what you want? Take something. (Spanish) Whatever you want, take it. (Spanish) You see, Advaita gosai you see, he said “First, let us do the puja for You.” and He starts to do a puja to Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu (Spanish) his wife was handing forward all the articles. (Spanish) Advaita performed arati for Lord Caitanya, then offered the… the sadanga articles for puja (Spanish) the six… six types of puja (Spanish)
You see, then after that was over, then again Lord Caitanya, “Take boon. Take a boon, Nara! (Spanish) Said, “I've already dance before You! What benediction could I desire?” (Spanish) You see, “When I've already danced before You, chanting Your holy name all My desires are satisfied.” (Spanish)

“Now take some boon. (Spanish) What you want, liberation (Spanish) what you want?” (Spanish)

“No. No. If You insist, then alright, You can then give me one thing. (Spanish) My Lord, You have come down to deliver pure devotional service. (Spanish) My humble prayer (Spanish) is give this mercy to even the most unfortunate people (Spanish) to even those people who would ordinarily not easily get this chance (Spanish) even to the uneducated, (Spanish) the simple women (Spanish) to the merchants and labors (Spanish) to anyone, you see (Spanish) but let those who are in very high families, (Spanish) who are very puffed up and inflated (Spanish) who are insulting Your pure devotee (Spanish) and due to their false prestige they never surrender to Your lotus feet (Spanish) let them die an ordinary death and not be delivered (Spanish) you see, this is my prayer. (Spanish)

Caitanya Mahaprabhu said “Tathastha!” (Spanish) So be it! (Spanish) You see, and He granted the boon (Spanish) “Whatever Advaita said is correct.” (Spanish) You see, so there was a very unique relationship between Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His devotees. (Spanish) So, although the devotees already knew from Navadvipa that Lord Caitanya was Krishna, (Spanish) at the same time except for those rare movements He had come in the mood of Krishna (Spanish) in other times He would always be in the mood of a devotee (Spanish) and if anyone addressed Him as Krishna then Lord Caitanya would cover His ears and yell, “Vishnu Vishnu Vishnu, what a great offence you have committed!” (Spanish)

One time even Lord Caitanya revealed that Advaita was the Mahavishnu come down (Spanish) you see, and when Lord Caitanya was in His mood of Krishna Advaita was always in the mood of service to Him. When Lord Caitanya was in His mood as a devotee, you see then (Spanish) Advaita, He could not worship the Lord. (Spanish) instead the Lord would worship Him as senior Vaisnava. (Spanish) Later I can discuss how Advaita Gosai stole the mercy from Lord Caitanya (Spanish) and how Lord Caitanya stole it back. (Spanish) If you'd like to hear it. (Spanish)

Devotees: Jaya!

Jayapataka Swami: So here we are in Jagannath Puri with Lord Caitanya organizing the sanakirtan chanting (Spanish) and He was raising His arms and chanting “Hari Hari Jaya Jagannath! Jaya Jagannath.” (Spanish)

āra eka śakti prabhu karila prakāśa eka-kāle sāta ṭhāṣi karila vilāsa

Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu then exhibited another mystic power (Spanish) by performing pastimes simultaneously in all seven groups. (Spanish)

sabe kahe, — prabhu āchena mora sampradāya anya ṭhāṣi nāhi yā'na āmāre dayāya

Everyone said, "Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu is present in my group. (Spanish) Indeed, He does not go anywhere else. He is bestowing His mercy upon us." (Spanish)

keha lakhite nāre prabhura acintya-śakti antarańga-bhakta jāne, yāńra śuddha-bhakti

Actually, no one could see the inconceivable potency of the Lord. (Spanish) Only the most confidential devotees, (Spanish) those in pure, unalloyed devotional service, could understand. (Spanish)

Otherwise Caitanya Mahaprabhu simultaneously he went seven different groups (Spanish) just like one Krishna when he performed rasalila he went with each gopi (Spanish)And each devotee gopi thought that “Krishna is simply with me.” (Spanish) But He was with every gopi. Thousands and thousands forms He took. (Spanish) So here Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu also, He took seven different forms with each party (Spanish) and each group they could only see Krishna in their group. They couldn’t see Krishna in other group. (Spanish)

Nitai Gaur Premanande Hari Hari Bol!

Devotees: Hari Bol!

Devotees: Hare Krishna

And Lilas went on. (Spanish)

Translator: You said you were going to say how Advaitacarya robbed the mercy from Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and how Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu re… took that mercy back again.

(Spanish)

Jayapataka Swami: I said later. (Spanish)

Translator: We've waited.

Jayapataka Swami: Gonna wait to the evening?

Translator: No (laughter)

Jayapataka Swami: (Laughing) It will still be fresh then. Translator: Something else will be fresh then. (Spanish) Jayaptaka Swami: Everyone wants to wait, right?

Devotees: No! No! (Laughing)

Jayapataka Swami: So it's your order? (Spanish)

Devotees: Si! Si! (applause)

Jayapataka Swami: then I have no choice. (Spanish) So Advaita Gosai he would always want to get the dust from Lord Caitanya’s lotus feet (Spanish) but only by... because the Lord was treating Him with such respect (Spanish) what to speck of taking dust from His feet, He was offering Him respect. (Spanish) If a devotee wanted to touch Lord Caitanya’s lotus feet instead He would stop him and embrace Him (Spanish) He wouldn't let anyone touch His lotus feet to show etiquette of a Vaisnava (Spanish) but when Lord Caitanya would fall unconscious in ecstasy, (Spanish) then Advaita Gosvami would run over amd take the dust (Spanish) and he would fan Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. (Spanish)

You see, and then Lord Caitanya He would get up and later He wouldn't say anything. (Spanish) One time Lord Advaita He... when Lord Caitanya fell unconscious in ecstasy of pure love for Krishna (Spanish) He ran over to Lord Caitanya (Spanish) and took the dust frpm His lotus feet (Spanish) you see and He start to rub on his head and his body everywhere (Spanish) He took a complete bath in the dust of Lord Caitanya’s lotus feet (Spanish) you see then Lord Caitanya He became externally conscious (Spanish) and He wanted to start the kirtana (Spanish) He said, “Someone had stolen all my good fortune. (Spanish)(laughter) why there is no ecstasy coming? (Spanish) (laughter) Someone has stolen all my good fortune, all my devotional credit. (Spanish) Who has done this?” (Spanish) (laughter)

All the devotees became completely afraid (Spanish)You see, and they held their heads down (Spanish) because no one was going to say “Well, Advaita did it.” (Spanish) (laughter). They were just afraid and they don’t know what to say (Spanish) So then, Advaita Gosai (Spanish) He said that “Well someone who is very poor, sometime He has to take a little nectar mercy (Spanish) you see whenever he can get it. (Spanish) You see, so then Lord Caitanya said “Oh (Spanish) So you are the culprit.” (Spanish) and He ran after Advaita Gosai (Spanish) (laughter)

He would start running away from Him (Spanish) and he grabbed His lotus feet. Lord Caitanya grabbed the lotus feet of Advaita (Spanish) (laughter) put the dust from Lord Advaita’s lotus feet (Spanish) put on His head and (Spanish) because Lord Caitanya was so big and strong Advaita couldn’t resist. (Spanish)

You see, then Advaita, He said that “This is Your character...” “This is not according to Your character (Spanish) to take… to take from such a poor person all the spiritual credits. (Spanish) and leaving me bankrupt (Spanish) (laughter) big spiritual person… a big person just crushes a little person what is the value of that? (Spanish) You are stockpile all devotional energy (Spanish) I am just nothing (Spanish) you are taking little store I had (Spanish) and that by force (Spanish) (laughter) Of course in Krishna... You also did this in Your Krishna-lila (Spanish)

You see when Lord Narada… when Narada muni would come to visit You, You would not allow Him to pay obeisances to You. (Spanish) Instead you were washing his lotus feet. (Spanish) When Sudama vipra, Your devotee came, You were also washing his lotus feet. (Spanish) So this is... of course, You are doing this. Although You are in the supreme position, You are washing the feet of your devotees, (Spanish) but this is not really suiting for Your exalted position (Spanish) to take a little spiritual fortune you have taken it away from us.” (Spanish) Then Advaita Gosai laughed in ecstasy (Spanish) because He was able to glorify Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu as Krishna indirectly (Spanish)

Nitai Gaura Premanande Hari Bol!

Nitai Guar Premanande Sitanatha!

Translator: I thought you were going to tell us the story about Sri Caitanya and Advaita in Kamalakantha. Jayapataka Swami: I never said kamalakantha.

Translator: Well, you said how that Advaitacarya wanted… wanted Lord Caitanya to… He didn't like it when Lord Caitanya always glorified Him. And I thought you were going to tell that story.

Jayapataka Swami: That's another story; I said how He stole the mercy and how Lord Caitanya stole it back.

Translator: Oh, but you could also tell that other story.

Jayaptaka Swami: Not today

Devotee: Tonight?

Jayapataka Swami: (Spanish)

Translator: Here's a question.

Devotee: Lord Caitanya, was He the first to reveal the real meaning of ratha-yatra festival? (Spanish)

Jayapataka Swami: You see, even during Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s pastimes in the beginning, only Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Svarupa Damodara, and a very few people could understand, even… only Svarupa Damodara could understand Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s realization or inner feeling about the ratha-yatra. (Spanish) When uh, Rupa goswami wrote that prayer about the ratha-yatra, that was very surprising to Caitanya Mahaprabhu. (Spanish)

Translator: When Rupa Gosvami wrote that prayer…

Jayapataka Swami: It was very surprising to Lord Caitanya that he understood His mind (Spanish) so only the most exalted followers of Caitanya Mahaprabhu could understand (Spanish) these inner ecstasies of Caitanya Mahaprabhu (Spanish) and the most esoteric meaning of rathyatra (Spanish) but it was broadcast by the followers of Caitanya Mahaprabhu (Spanish) to the pure devotees. (Spanish)

Devotee: So the general population then, doesn’t understand festival? (Spanish)

Jayapataka Swami: As a rule, Bengalis may understand even more (Spanish) because the Caitanya-Caritamrita explains and it's in Bengali (Spanish) so sometimes in the Bengali newspapers, you see both explanations that Jagannatha is going to his auntie’s house (Spanish) as well as he is going to meet the devotees from Vrndavana (Spanish) But generally speaking only those pure devotees of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu understand this esoteric meaning. (Spanish) The general understanding is Jagannatha is going to meet his aunty, Kunti (Spanish)

Translator: You say “aunty” (Spanish) I think that's it.

Jayapataka Swami: Those who are outside? (Spanish) So who are the four dancers… who are four of the seven dancers? (Spanish)

Devotee: (Spanish)

Translator: (Spanish) He says last year you explained all the pastime of Caitanya Das and then you said you were going to explain about the pastime about when the six gosvamis went to Vrindavan but he wasn't able to hear that.

Jayapataka Swami: Well, what, I told how Srinivasacarya went to Vrindavan? (Spanish)

Devotee: (Spanish)

Translator: How Srinivasacarya went and found six gosvamis in Vrndavana.

Jayapataka Swami: I never told that?

Devotees: No, No

Translator: They're saying “No”

Devotee: Need a cue card.

Jayapataka Swami: That takes at least an hour and a half to explain, so maybe next year (laughter)

Translator: Devotees have to move a little bit with the ratha-yatra, but…

Jayapataka Swami: Maybe tonight (Spanish)

Devotees: Jaya! Haribol! (Applause)

Translator: (Spanish)

Jayapataka Swami: They have already enough nectar (Spanish) (laughter)

[Break]

Translator: He says its… the meaning of the story you told about Advaitacarya and Lord Caitanya then, one devotee can rob another devotee of his spiritual advancement by touching his feet. (Spanish)

Jayapataka Swami: By touching someone’s feet you take the good qualities from them. (Spanish) (laughter)

Translator: Hey, wait a minute. You should be very careful.

Jayapataka Swami: You see, if too many people take, then the person is over-weak. (Spanish) That's why even Srila Prabhupada, he wouldn’t allow uh, for a long time anyone to touch his feet (Spanish) and then later he would only allow initiated disciples. (Spanish) You see, you can... He is very wealthy. (applause laughter)

Translator: (Spanish) I told them I haven't washed my feet in two weeks. They're very contaminated.

Jayapataka Swami: Plenty of dust. (Spanish)
